The latest OnePlus open renders show an updated design, which explains how the delay was for more than just a panel change

Earlier this month, we reported that the OnePlus Open had reportedly been delayed. While at the time the sources suggested that it happened because OnePlus moved to panels from Samsung Display instead of BOE, but the latest renders that have surfaced right now tell us that it is more than just a panel change.

The OnePlus Open has undergone a significant design change and looks much better now

Coming from OnLeaks and SmartPrix, the latest renders show that the foldable now has a much rounder screen on the outside, and not only that, the OnePlus Open also appears to have a design that is much more similar to the Pixel Fold than it is to the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Although the reason behind this change is still unknown, I am glad that the company made this design decision because it makes the foldable device much more compact and pocket-friendly. You can see how the new form factor looks side by side with the old one.

So the OnePlus Open now has rounded corners, the outer screen is also more rounded, and I have a feeling the phone is also going to be a bit shorter. This design is similar to what OPPO and Google have with their foldable phones, and frankly, I'm a fan of this form factor as it's much easier to handle. Folding phones can be massive in the hand and feel out of place, but this design choice takes care of that, as it helps make it more ergonomic.

The source has revealed that the camera has also received a significant upgrade compared to the previous one. The new camera module is larger than the previous one. You get three large sensors on the back, including a periscope telephoto camera. There is the possibility of either a Time of Flight (ToF) or a LiDAR sensor which will be under the Hasselblad brand. The front-facing camera has also been moved to the right from the left.

The rest of the specifications remain the same. The leaked rumors suggest that the OnePlus Open will offer a 7.8-inch internal display and a 6.3-inch external display. Both will use a refresh rate of 120Hz. The phone will run on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 256 gigs of base storage and 16 gigs of RAM. On the back, the phone will offer two 48-megapixel cameras, one for the primary sensor and the other for ultra-wide, and the periscope telephoto camera will be 64-megapixel.

You're also looking at a substantial 4,800 mAh battery and a 67W wired fast charge. The phone was supposed to debut on August 29, later this month, but appears to have been delayed. We will keep you updated as we get more information about the new release date.
