Red Dead Redemption is coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch soon, although it's not what most fans expected.
Today, Rockstar Games confirmed that their popular open-world game originally released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 will launch on PS4 and Nintendo Switch next week, August 17, complete with the Undead Nightmare DLC expansion. Unfortunately, this new version of the game, developed by Double Eleven Studios, looks like a straight port of the original with little visual improvements aside from a resolution bump and slightly improved LOD and textures, as shown in the announcement trailer that can be seen below.
Despite the fact that the new version of the game is an almost direct port of the original, the return of Red Dead Redemption is indeed welcome, considering how it was not possible to play the original release on modern hardware, with the exception of the Xbox Series X and S which can play the Xbox 360 release via backwards compatibility. Still, it's disappointing to see not only PC being skipped over again, but also another new release from Rockstar Games that doesn't include the visual and gameplay improvements a game like Red Dead Redemption deserves.
Red Dead Redemption launches on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on August 17. A retail release will launch on October 13 worldwide.
