Hogwarts' Legacy – How to Learn Avada Kedavra

Avada Kedavra is the third unforgivable curse you can learn in Hogwarts Legacy. If you're familiar with the Wizarding World universe, you already know that this dark magic spell is extremely powerful, as it instantly kills any target you hit. Therefore, you won't learn it from your in-game professors. Instead, your friend Sebastian Sallow will offer to teach you the infamous Killing Curse at the end of the "In the Shadow of the Relic" side quest.

You will have the chance to accept or decline his proposal if you feel it is not the right time to learn this spell. However, the game does not punish you for casting Avada Kedavra or any other unforgivable curse. Instead, you can use them to defeat enemies faster, and if you spend enough Talent Points on your Dark Arts abilities, you can combine the three spells and become almost invincible. So let's see how to learn Avada Kedavra in Hogwarts' Legacy.

How to complete the In the Shadow of the Relic quest

"In the Shadow of the Relic" is a relationship quest related to Sebastian Sallow. You will get it towards the end of the game and you must have completed the main quest "Lodgok's Loyalty" . You must also complete all of his previous relationship quests, including "In the Shadow of Hope."

Once these prerequisites are met, you will receive an owl from Omini's Gaunt and unlock the "In the Shadow of the Relic" quest. This quest has a suggested level of 28, so make sure you are sufficiently leveled up before starting it. If not, the enemies you will face during this mission may be too powerful for you. However, this is not a mandatory requirement, so feel free to take it when you feel ready. As a reward for completing it, you will be able to learn Avada Kedavra.

Reach Ominis and Anne outside the catacomb, the same one you visited with Sebastian during the "In the Shadow of Time" quest, and talk to the boy to start the quest. He will express all his concern for his friend Sebastian, who is inside the Feldcroft Catacomb and in a lot of trouble.

When you're done talking, enter the catacomb. Follow the main path and you will soon find various Inferi that you must defeat before continuing. Use your fire spells, Confringo and Incendio, to damage them for the first time. Then they will be vulnerable to any other attack, so cast your preferred enchantment. After this first battle, the Ominis will return to Hogwarts to speak with Professor Black. So you will continue to search for Sebastian on your own.

Keep following the main path and you'll soon be dealing with another group of Inferi. After defeating them, follow the tunnel straight ahead until you reach the end of the path. Here you have to find a way up the ledge you see in front of you. Open the trenches on the walls with Accio; you will find two skeletons that you can use to make a bridge.

In the next room you will finally find Sebastian. However, Solomon Sallow will join you soon after you start talking to your friend and try to stop his nephew by destroying the relic. You will then start a battle against Solomon. Also, Inferi will keep appearing, so you'll have to deal with both the boss of this mission and these other annoying enemies. Focus on Solomon and as soon as you defeat him, a new cutscene will start.

Sebastian will cast Avada Kedavra on his uncle and kill him. Her sister Anne will then appear, destroy the journal and take her dead uncle with her. After this, you must follow Sebastian until you exit the catacomb, and then you can talk to him.

To unlock Avada Kedavra in Hogwarts' Legacy, select the following dialog options when prompted:

Sebastian will share further details about the Killing Curse, and then the usual mini-game of learning new spells will begin. After this, the quest will end and Avada Kedavra will be permanently added to your spell list. You can use it against enemies from now on, killing them instantly.

Can you still learn Avada Kedavra later?

If you decline Sebastian's proposal at the end of the "In the Shadow of the Relic" quest, you can still learn Avada Kedavra. When you get the next relationship quest called "In the Shadow of Fate", you will talk to the Ominis and you must choose the second option, "We must not let Sebastian in," in order to unlock the Killing Curse later.

After completing all the remaining relationship quests related to Sebastian, you can meet your friend at the Undercroft. He will teach you any Unforgivable Curse you may have missed during the game, including Avada Kedavra.

How to upgrade Avada Kedavra

You can unlock Avada Kedavra Mastery in the Talents menu under the Dark Arts section. With this ability, you can kill all cursed enemies when you cast this unforgivable curse on an enemy. If you combine it with Crucio and Imperio Mastery, you will defeat hordes of enemies in no time.
