Reliable rumors about 2023's Call of Duty title have been swirling for a while, but now Activision Blizzard has finally confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is coming our way this year. It was originally reported that CoD would actually skip 2023, with a major expansion for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II releasing instead. Later, the expansion would be transformed into a full game, led by Sledgehammer Games. It was Sledgehammer Games who made the official CoD: MWIII announcement, essentially confirming this timeline.

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III teaser doesn't reveal much about the game, apart from showing us some images of Captain Price and Vladimir Makarov, which seems to confirm that the game's story will follow close on the heels of Modern Warfare II. While Activision themselves aren't revealing much yet, some images from the game's internal alpha that leaked several weeks back have provided some details. Apparently, the classic minimap will be back and the perks will now be tied to gear. So, for example, you might be able to buy a pair of boots that will give you the Ninja perk, ect. Basically, it's a new way to get players to buy gear. It has also been reported by Insider Gaming that a number of classic Call of Duty multiplayer maps as well as the "War" mode from CoD WW2 will return.
As for when we can expect more official information, it will likely be revealed via an event in Call of Duty Warzone 2.0, although a date for when that will happen has not been given yet. Expect that to happen soon – at least this month, but possibly as early as this week.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III launches on November 10. Presumably the game will come to the same platforms as Modern Warfare II (PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4 and PS5) although it hasn't. yet to be confirmed. What do you think? Are you excited for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, or is Activision leaving you cold when you return to this same well?
